We stock and install Lennox-compatible capacitors from our Las Vegas trucks, and most replacements run $180 – $385 installed, depending on whether your system needs a single-run, dual-run, or start capacitor. We can typically have a technician at your door the same day you call, often within a few hours. The way most Las Vegas homeowners discover a failed capacitor is simple: the outside unit hums but the fan won’t spin, or the compressor tries to start and gives up. On a 110-degree afternoon in Summerlin or Henderson, that’s a problem you want solved before the house climbs past 85.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
Lennox builds capacitors into nearly every residential condenser and air handler they’ve shipped in the past 25 years, including the Merit, Elite, and Dave Lennox Signature Collection series. Common outdoor units we see across Las Vegas neighborhoods include the 13ACX, 14ACX, XC13, XC14, XC16, XC20, XC21, and the newer ML14XC1 and EL16XC1 lines. Heat pumps in the XP series use the same capacitor families.
The key to matching the right part is reading the label on the old capacitor. Lennox systems typically use a combination of two specs printed directly on the metal canister: the microfarad rating (Mf or μF) and the voltage. Most Lennox single-stage condensers use a dual-run capacitor rated somewhere between 35/5 μF and 80/10 μF at 370 or 440 volts. In Las Vegas, where high ambient heat pushes capacitors to their thermal limit, we strongly recommend upgrading from a 370-volt unit to a 440-volt equivalent when your system allows it. The 440-volt part runs cooler and lasts measurably longer in our climate. One gotcha: Lennox occasionally specifies a round capacitor where most aftermarket equivalents are oval. It fits the same bracket, but if you’re ordering your own, the physical dimensions matter. As an independent service provider, we’re not affiliated with Lennox, but we install both OEM Lennox-labeled capacitors and quality aftermarket equivalents like AmRad and Titan HD. For a system still under manufacturer warranty, we’ll use the OEM part. For everything else, we often prefer the AmRad, which is built in the USA and carries a 5-year warranty versus the typical 1-year coverage on generic imports.

Signs Your Lennox Capacitor Replacement Is Failing
- Outside unit hums but the fan won’t turn. This is the classic tell in Las Vegas. The capacitor has lost too much of its microfarad rating to give the fan motor its starting jolt. The motor sits there drawing power and overheating, which can damage the motor itself if ignored for long.
- Compressor starts, then shuts off after a few seconds. The capacitor can’t hold enough charge to keep the compressor running through its full cycle. You’ll hear a click, a brief hum, and then silence. This rapid cycling can trip breakers and strain the compressor windings.
- AC runs fine at night but struggles or trips the breaker during the day. Capacitor performance degrades as temperatures rise. In Las Vegas, where rooftop and side-yard temperatures regularly exceed 130 degrees in July and August, a marginal capacitor will fail under peak load but work when it’s cool. This is a classic pre-failure sign.
- The top of the capacitor looks swollen or domed. The metal canister should have a flat top. If it’s bulging, the internal dielectric fluid has overheated and expanded. This means the capacitor is dead or dying, even if the system still runs on cooler days.
- You see oily residue around the capacitor body. A leaking capacitor has ruptured internally. The fluid that helped insulate the plates is gone, and the part can no longer hold a proper charge. Continuing to run the system in this state risks damaging the compressor and fan motor.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Our installed Lennox capacitor replacement in Las Vegas typically runs $180 – $385. That’s the total price, including the part, the labor, and the service call. A basic single-run capacitor for a condenser fan motor sits at the bottom of that range. A dual-run capacitor that serves both the compressor and fan, which is what most Lennox condensers use, lands in the middle. A start capacitor paired with a potential relay, common on larger Lennox units and heat pumps, pushes toward the top.
Before we touch anything, you get a written price. Not a verbal estimate, not a range we’ll “firm up” after the part comes off. The price you approve is the price you pay. We hand you that quote before a single tool comes out of the bag. That’s how we’ve operated since 2003, and it’s part of the Kingswell Way: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave you, leave the job site cleaner than we found it, and put the guarantee in writing.
Every capacitor replacement carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the part fails or the repair doesn’t hold within a full year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That guarantee is on paper before the technician leaves.
One number most Las Vegas homeowners don’t expect: replacing a capacitor before it fails costs the same as replacing it after it fails. There’s no emergency upcharge with us. A live person answers our phone 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including a 115-degree Sunday in August. Call (725) 726-3813 and you’ll get a human, not a phone tree.

Capacitors store electrical charge even when the power is off. A capacitor that hasn’t been properly discharged can deliver a serious shock, and in some cases that shock is lethal. We’ll say it plainly: this is not a part to replace on a Saturday afternoon with a YouTube tutorial and a multimeter you bought an hour ago. The risk isn’t worth the savings.
What you can safely check: confirm the thermostat is calling for cool air, check that the breaker hasn’t tripped, and look at the outside unit to see if the fan is spinning. If the fan won’t spin but you hear a hum, turn the system off at the thermostat and breaker, then call (725) 726-3813. That’s the capacitor talking to you, and it wants a trained technician.
Victor Mancini and our crew have been replacing capacitors on Lennox systems across Las Vegas for over two decades. We carry dual-run caps in the most common Lennox ratings, plus start capacitors and the brackets and wiring connectors that go with them, on every truck. The technician who shows up will know exactly what part your system takes before they open the panel.
FAQs
A capacitor on a Lennox system in Las Vegas typically lasts 5 to 10 years, though we’ve seen OEM units fail in as little as 3 summers when the condenser sits on a south-facing wall in full sun. Heat is the main killer, and our climate shortens capacitor life compared to coastal markets. A 440-volt rated capacitor will generally outlast a 370-volt part in Las Vegas conditions. If your current capacitor is 7 years old and you’re scheduling any other work, it’s often smart to replace it at the same time. Call (725) 726-3813 and we’ll give you a written price before any work begins.
No capacitor can be repaired. The internal plates and dielectric fluid degrade over time, and once the part has lost its ability to hold a charge, replacement is the only safe option. Attempting to open or refill a capacitor is dangerous and will ruin the part. We replace it, and the new part is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
Most capacitor replacements take between 45 and 90 minutes from the time the technician arrives. That includes confirming the diagnosis, discharging the old capacitor safely, installing the new part, testing start-up and run current, and cleaning up the work area. The repair itself is quick. The diagnostic and verification steps are what take the time, and we don’t skip them.
We stock the most common Lennox dual-run capacitor ratings on every truck, including 35/5, 40/5, 45/5, 50/5, 60/5, and 70/5 μF at 440 volts, plus start capacitors and universal replacements. For unusual sizes or specific OEM Lennox parts not in truck stock, we can typically source them from our local Las Vegas suppliers the same day. We also carry parts for Carrier and Trane systems, so whatever brand is in your home, the technician who shows up will be prepared.
Tell me what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you what it costs, no guesswork, no runaround. Call (725) 726-3813 and a live person will answer, day or night. We serve all of Las Vegas, from Summerlin to Henderson, and we’ll give you a written price before we touch a single tool.
